The application range starts from aviation and aerospace, to medical engineering, for the navy and the mining industry, as well as in the engineering aspects of energy, environmental and laboratory work. The connectors may be located in a submarine or a satellite, a drilling rig or a nuclear power plant, a navigational instrument or a medical device.
Together with its subsidiary, the French connector specialist Jaeger Connecteurs, Hummel is one of the pioneers of sophisticated connection solutions. Their range includes hermetic plugs with between 3 and 52 contact points either as device plug-in connectors or as wall ducts. The connectors are available in welded versions as well as in a variety of screw-based versions. The high-quality materials also allow for use in the high-voltage range.
The connector casing is made of stainless steel, with an option for gold plating. Special attention is paid to the contact inserts for hermetic connectors. The standards required for air, gas and pressure resistance are very high. The hermetic connectors have gold plated contacts and an insulator made from sintered glass placed between the pin and the connector casing. This ensures high mechanical strength and imperviousness. Result is a permanent, permissible difference in pressure of 50 bar, a helium leak rate of less than 10–9 mbar l s–1 and an operating temperature of –50 to +125 °C.
